Conni was born with the cutest little pot belly any baby has ever seen. Because of this, when we first started putting her on her stomach she would just balance on her tummy and look remarkably like an overturned turtle. For a while she didn't try to roll over or move around or anything - just balance and get frustrated that she had to be there. Then she started to push herself up and look around. Then in February she finally rolled from her back to her front and then to her back again! We were so excited that she had finally done it, but then Conni wouldn't roll over again unless she was playing with Dad and didn't really think about it. Then she started to do it sometimes for Mom, but not with any regularity.
Well, after working hard not to compare her to her cousins or other kids, and finally accepting that its ok that she will be a later bloomer, Conni is finally starting to get mobile! On Friday, we were playing in the front room and Conni took her socks off (that's my girl!) Its finally getting warm enough that I've stopped stressing about keeping the socks on so we were both playing bare-footed. Conni got herself onto her belly and I enticed her with her rings. She pushed herself up with her hands, then flopped back down and worked with her legs, and tried to figure out how to move. Then she got one foot underneath her, and inched herself forward. I got so excited I scared her - oops! :) Once she realized Mommi's cheers were a good thing, she tried again to get closer to her rings and succeeded in "worming" herself forward a couple of inches total.
I am very excited to have Conni mobile soon. I realize that it is the beginning of the end, and I will miss these days. But I am ready for her to be able to get to the things she wants on her own and not fuss. Now we have to babyproof to keep her out of everything else...
