Conni did a science experiment at school last week that she wanted to do again at home with us. I love her interest in STEM subjects, so once we got everything we recreated the experiment.
Items Needed:
Gummy Bears
Gummy Bears
Water
Sugar Water
Oil
Vinegar
Conni lead us setting up the experiment:
Fill each bowl with one of the liquids:
Water, Sugar Water, Oil, or vinegar
Add a gummy bear to each bowl
Then we recorded what color bear was in what liquid -
Because "its important to take notes when you do science"
Water: blue gummy bear
Sugar Water: green gummy bear
Vinegar: red gummy bear
Oil: orange gummy bear
She's so cute - and she loves doing experiments!
Let the bowls sit at least overnight. Ours sat for about 24 hours before we got back to take the pictures from them. When they did the experiment at school, Conni told me what she thought would happen to each color the next day. I was excited to hear her implementing the scientific method!
The results:
We put an original size gummy bear on the note pad for comparison. The bear in the water grew almost double. The bear in the sugar water grew a little. The bear in the oil didn't change. The bear in the vinegar "exploded" Conni said - or dissolved.
Science is fun! This was a simple, fun thing to recreate at home and have a great discussion about how different things react to different liquids. Super easy set up and clean up too - so I was a fan! Try it out with your kids!
