We get to go to Disneyland this year! Conni has a countdown going, and every week or so she gets a prize. This last week I made these hairbows for her prize. (I found the instructions here. I put them on hair clips instead of headbands and Conni loved them! I think I will be making a few more princesses....
The story behind "The IVS": My husband Dave bears a fourth generation name. When we were dating I was doodling his name and my sister asked me why I kept writing "iv" (pronounced with the short i sound, then the v sound if that makes sense.) I explained Dave's name and she started calling him Iv. The name stuck and here we are!

Witnessing a R.A.K.
Last week after our Young Women's activity, one of my girls called me saying she had lost her phone at the activity. I hadn't seen it and I suggested some other leaders who may have picked up the phone that she could contact. But, unfortunately no one had her phone and we thought it was completely lost.
Well, each week, there is a group of men who use our building (not from our ward or stake) to play basketball in the evenings.
Yesterday as we were cleaning up from our activity, one of the guys from the basketball group came in with the lost phone! He had found it the week before when he was locking up the building. He had called everyone on his basketball roster and no one claimed it. He kept the phone charged, hoping to see a call from a "mom" or "dad" entry so he could answer and inform he had the lost phone. He kept seeing texts from another girl, so he figured that the phone must belong to our group. He made a point to get to the building early enough to track us down. He was so concerned and conscientious about getting this phone returned that it really struck me. So many people would do a little bit of work, but then say, "oh well I tried." To me, his efforts were above and beyond. And to my young woman who owned the phone it was an answer to prayer. She is still out of town with her family, but when we called her mom to tell her we had her phone, she started crying with relief.
I am glad that we got to meet this guy and the girls got to see his Random Act of Kindness. They continued to comment about it for the rest of the night. What a great impression!
Scriptures: Captain Moroni Defeats Zarahemnah
For our family scripture reading right now we are reading from the Book of Mormon, using the children's illustrated book. Last night we read the story of Captain Moroni and Zarahmenah. (If you are unfamiliar with this story, check it out here. This story starts on page 85, Chapter 31.)
Conni was intrigued by this story. She loves trying to analyze why people act how they do and determine who are the good guys and the bad guys as she studies the pictures.
We read the last square on page 87 that says this: "Zerahemnah rushed at Moroni to kill him, but a Nephite soldier hit and broke Zerahemnah's sword."
As we're turning the page, Conni pipes up, "Oh that sure was nice of him to break the sword!"
So true Conni! :)
