Mommy Moment

As I mentioned in my post below, last night was New Beginnings. That meant that I didn't get home from Young Women's till after Conni's bedtime. Dave knew I would be late so he had put Conni to bed. Normally at bedtime, she and I rock for a few minutes together after Dave turns out the lights. Last night she asked Dad "where's Mom to rock me" and Daddy had to tell her I would be home soon. She didn't want to wait in her bed, so Dave let her lay in our recliner in her room to wait for mom to get home to rock her.

Once I made it home of course I went in to see her. She was waiting for me in our chair. I walked in the door and was greeted with "Yay, Momma's home!" If that doesn't melt your heart! I scooped her up and asked if she wanted to rock. "Yes!" So we cuddled down like we do every night, listening to Primary songs.

Conni proceeded to tell me about her night with Dad. I didn't understand most of it :) But, I figured out what she was doing when she said, "Daddy no bath" cause she didn't have a bath before bed. She jabbered on excitedly as best as I can figure about other stuff they did. Then she snuggled into my arms, asked me to sing to her and put her thumb in her mouth.

I was so excited to hear about her day and to be able to have an almost conversation with her! I was excited that she wanted to tell me about it. And, I was excited that it was important enough for us to rock that she waited up for me. I love being a Mom!

New Beginnings

Last night we had our ward Young Women's New Beginnings meeting. If you don't know, this is where we introduce our theme for the year, and (if we had any) we would introduce any new young women. The Young Women's theme for this year is the 13th Article of Faith.

I found a great program from Jenny Phillips on her website: www.jennyphillips.com called "We Believe". This program has a narrative and musical numbers from her cd of the same name. I was able to get sisters from our ward that don't currently serve in Young Womens to be our narrators and to sing. It was such an amazing program! I was so grateful that these women would willing take their Tuesday night to participate and make it such a great event! My counselors and secretary also did a great job preparing the evening and taking care of the treats, etc.

The most amazing part of the evening was the very last song. The Young Women and their leaders sang this song. It is called "We Believe".

Here are the lyrics:

Darkness rages now
More than it ever has before
But our faith is sure
We are standing tall
We are standing strong
We can clearly see between
Right and wrong

Chorus
We believe in being honest
We believe in being true
Chaste and benevolent
Doing good to all men
We believe all things
We hope all things
We seek the virtuous
All that is praiseworthy
We're standing sure
We believe

We are not deceived
By the forces that fight against whats right
Our trust is in Christ
He leads us to joy
He leads us to light
He leads us to all good things
In this life

Chorus

Our mighty God has given us
So much good to find
There's just no room
For darkness in our lives

Chorus

I had the most amazing experience watching our Young Women sing this song. I was so choked with emotion I couldn't sing with them. I had the most intense wave of love for these girls wash over me! I don't think they realized it, but they were all bearing testimony that they do Believe! I can see each of these traits in each of these young ladies. I don't even know how to describe the power I felt! I'm crying again just writing the experience. It was so amazing!!!! The Spirit was so strong and I am grateful that I was able to have that witness. The night was a success and hopefully we can refer back to it thru the year as we build on what "We Believe".

So Smart

This is a brag post. I'll be honest. On Friday, Conni and I were playing in the kitchen with her letters. I went thru the alphabet pointing at each letter and asked her what they were. She got all but five right!!! She called "f" an "e", and "x" a "k", and "v" a "y", and "g" and "q" an "o".

Then we went thru her numbers. She knows 0-9 perfectly!

I know, many kids learn their letters and numbers at this age, but I am excited that Conni has learned hers (mostly). She also knows her basic colors and shapes. We will keep practicing and see what we can teach her next!

Seeing Red

Its official - Conni's favorite color is red. For a devoted BYU fan like Dave, its been an adjustment. As I previously posted, Conni would live in her red sweater if we let her. She loves her sparkly red shoes. Now she is even requesting the red spoons for her yogurt in the morning. She prefers Mickey to Minnie - and I think its cause Minnie is in pink and Mickey is in red.

I think with Valentine's Day coming up, I will have to watch for some good deals on red shirts, jammies, toys, stickers, etc. I may even have to sneak in some red from the school up to the north just to get the reaction.

We love seeing her personality emerging with choices like these!
