Random Pics

Just to finish out this week's update - some more random pics that are fun memories.

We were invited to go bowling with my sister for her birthday at the beginning of April.  These two are such good friends!  I'm so grateful they have each other to lean on.

(Happy birthday Steph - thanks for letting us share)

I had the opportunity to go with Conni's grade on their field trip to the zoo!  It was tons of fun.  I had three little girls to keep track of - and they were angels!  (So quiet too - it was different.)  But they all love to give hugs and we had fun.

I know I show lots of pictures of stuff like this - but I love how these two play!  Here they are playing a video game - Lego Marvel Super Heroes.  I love that they have such a good relationship and friendship.  Dave is truly the most awesome dad - and I love that he shares his interests.  He doesn't discriminate that Conni is a girl, so she "can't" play.  So Conni has lots of interests!

After the book fair, Conni kept her Princess in Black scepter to play with.  Here she dressed up as a fairy godmother and had a ton of fun playing.  I love her imagination!

Dance Competition

Its that time of year - Conni's annual dance competition.  She loves dance, and she gets so excited to perform on stage.  This year she had two numbers she was going to do - a tap and a jazz.

These costumes dropped their little dots all over the place!

One of Conni's favorite parts about dance performances is seeing these extended cousins.  Love these girls!

Conni loves getting her new trophy to add to her collection!

Dave tried to record the dances from a good seat while I watched from the sides to help with costume changes, etc.  But, during the first dance, someone walked right in front of the camera to sit on the same row as Dave, and totally messed up the auto focus.  Then on the second number, the camera was jacked up and kept trying to take stills instead of videos.  So we will have to try to record during the spring recital. So stay tuned in a few weeks....

Toothless

Conni is at that fun stage of losing teeth.  She lost her right front tooth a few months ago when Aunt Sarah pulled it for her.  Her left tooth has been super wiggly - kind of snaggle-toothed - but Conni refused to have anyone pull it for her.

This was her favorite face to pull for a while

Then on April 7th her other tooth came out!  It was Spring Break, so Conni was with Grandma while I was at work.  Grandma took Conni and her cousin Justine to go visit my brother's family for another cousin (Olivia's) birthday.  While they were driving back, Justine suddenly yells to Grandma, "Conni's bleeding!!!"  So, Grandma pulls to the side of the road on the freeway to investigate.  Turns out, Conni was wiping her lip and pushed her tooth out!  It went flying in the car, and Conni was so worried about finding it to give to the tooth fairy.  It turned up underneath her when they started looking.  :)

Conni excitedly called me at work and we cheered and celebrated!

Growing up in my family, we had a tradition that when you lost your front teeth we had corn on the cob that night.  I loved it!  So Conni knew that with dinner that night we'd be having corn on the cob - and she was super excited!

She finally had to eat sideways to get any corn.
But corn is her favorite!

Conni was properly messy by the end of the meal.  I loved carrying on this tradition!  She's such a cute toothless girl, and as always, so happy!  Love this bug!

The Princess in Black

The first graders this year did a book report fair.  They had to choose a book that illustrated one of the 7 Habits (Our school participates in the Leader in Me Program).  Then they had to make a poster and be the person from the book.  Conni knew right away that she wanted to do "The Princess in Black" by Shannon Hale.  She got this book for Christmas and it is truly one of her favorites!

We drew up our plan on a piece of paper.  We wrote out the statements she wanted to use, then I typed them up for her.  Conni got to choose her fonts and how big though.

Conni and Dad took some time outside one date night and made Princess Magnolia's scepter out of wood.

Then Conni and Mom painted it to look all silvery sparkly.

Then we got to work on the poster!  Dad just freehanded an outline of Princess Magnolia on the poster for us.  (I wish I could draw like that!) Then we worked together to color it in with crayons.  Mom did the outlining.

Mom also crocheted a flower to have several different mediums on the poster.  We hot glued on some hair, then Conni used jewel stickers to make the crown.  We worked together to glue the words on, then Conni decorated them with more jewel stickers.  If you enlarge the poster, you can also see the two pictures Conni drew of Princess Magnolia working with her horse Blacky to defeat the Blue Monster.

The day of the fair Conni chose to dress up all in black.

Conni at the Book Report Fair with her poster!  She was having so much fun!

I am very proud of how hard Conni worked on her poster and her costume.  I tried not to be "that mom" and let Conni make almost all of the decisions.  We got a ton of compliments on her poster.  I was pleased to see her poster was about middle ground of the group - you could tell we helped, but that it had her work on it too.

Oh - and in case you were wondering - Conni recommends this book because it is funny.  If you have little girls, we highly recommend it - and thanks to our friends Sara and Jess for introducing us to it!
