We had a very lazy Memorial Day yesterday. Dave has a bad stomach bug and so Conni and I watched movies and worked on projects and just tried to keep the house quiet so Dave could get some sleep.
One of the movies we watched was Disney's "The Emperor's New Groove." We love this movie! At the end, they have an interactive game where you are trying to help the Emperor Kuzco get back to his palace by answering questions about the movie. Conni loves playing this game whenever we watch the show. Then we took a break from the TV and Conni said she was going to do a craft. I was working on my projects and loved seeing what I found when I checked on her - she had made her own version of the game at the end of the DVD!
Game board #1 - The Emperor's New Groove (The emprs new groov!) In the bottom corner are Izma and Kuzco (as the llama) playing pieces. You start out at Paacha's house and have to answer questions to get back to Kuzco's palace.
Here are the questions you have to answer:
Click on the picture and make it bigger cause it's super cute to see a 1st grader's spelling! Here's the translation of each questions:
1. What color is Izma?
a. gray, b. blue, c. pink, d. black
2. Who turned the emperor into a llama?
a. emperor, b. serving, c. Izma, d. kid
3. Who is the hero?
a. emperor, b. Izma, c. Kronk, d. servant
4. Who is Izma's helper?
a. Kronk, b. emperor, c. cat, d. crocodile
5. Who helps the emperor?
a. servant, b. Izma, c. cat, d. Kronk
Here's a close up of the playing pieces - Izma is on the left, Kuzco the llama on the right.
Here's the "story" to introduce the game. Watch the intro on the DVD and it will match perfectly :) The house is Paacha's house, then the next picture down is Kuzco as a human, then the next is Kuzco as a llama, then Izma, then Kronk's head, then the palace.
Game board #2 - getting into Izma's lab. The pictures at the top are the entrance to Izma's "secret lab" where you have to pull the lever - "Wrong lever Kronk!" Then next to it is the crocodile biting their rear end. (watch the show if that doesn't make sense to you).
The middle pictures are the carriers you see on the map portion of the movie - Izma on the left and Kuzco on the right. Then the board pieces are supposed to match their maps. The little circles at the bottom are the spinners for each player.
Here is the final round - in Izma's lab you have to make the potion that will turn Kuzco back to human.
(And yes - there's Izma in the corner because it's her lab and she knows the right answer. :)
Then Conni found a shoe box to keep it all in. She made the label - The empr-r's new groov. Under it she wrote "By Conni." Then she had to cover it with scotch tape so it wouldn't rub off. Not sure why she used a highlighter, but its all her style.
My gorgeous creative girl - so proud of all her hard work (as she should be!) I love watching her creativity flow and flourish. I love that she chose to make this without any suggestions - and she worked hard until it was all finished and even cleaned her stuff up without being told when she was done. Man I love this kid!
